Alexander McQueen Deserved A Better Exhibit Than Savage Beauty «
I wrote a longform piece for TheGloss about Savage Beauty, the wildly successful Alexander McQueen exhibit that closed this weekend. It disappointed me and saddened me. On the one hand, I’ve loved McQueen’s work for almost a decade and consider him a brilliant designer. On the other hand, I think if the CFDA/Met want to make the case that he was a Serious Artist, then the exhibit failed in several ways.
Anyway, it’s long and a little dry but I hope it’s written in a way that encourages discussion about how fashion is art and what it means to be a good designer and if we marginalize fashion by trying to talk about it like it’s something else.
