Queens of the Stone Age* are one of those bands capable of genuine over-the-top greatness but they’re inconsistent.  They’re also a “modern rock” band (which winks up at me from iTunes playlists as some sort of forced recognition that what I’m doing is shameful) but they’re great at what they do.  So maybe Josh Homme spreads himself thin?  My point is that the Queens are one of those bands criminally underrated by smart people and obnoxiously overrated by idiots**.  These two things have something to do with each other.

*Please do not point out that this is the Desert Sessions recording of “I Wanna Make It Wit U,” and not the one by Queens on Era Vulgaris.  That is kind of my point.  Isn’t this song great?
